Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker D23 Footage Teases Rey Going To Darkish Facet

After Rian Johnson’s experiments on The Final Jedi proved divisive (to say the least), most anticipate Disney and Lucasfilm to play it secure with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Putting in J.J. Abrams as director appeared like a sign that they had been hoping for a return to the crowd-pleasing nostalgia journey of The Pressure Awakens, as did the reveal that Ian McDiarmid’s Emperor Palpatine can be making a comeback.

However now, Disney has revealed new footage at their D23 Expo that means we is perhaps in for some very shocking developments. Brandon Davis of Comicbook.com was in attendance on the panel, and offered this description:

“A particular look again at Star Wars performs to conclude the presentation. It contains all the earlier movies. “We’ve handed on all we all know. The thousand generations dwell in you now however that is your battle.” It culminates with footage from the brand new film. The group overlooks a small village. A military of ships in areas. Rey in a black gown? Wielding a dual-bladed crimson lightsaber? What’s occurring?!? It might be one heck of a twist for the trilogy if Rey – up up to now a mannequin of heroism and morality – succumbed to the temptations of the Darkish Facet. But, how else are you able to clarify her sporting a black gown and wielding a saber that sounds very harking back to Darth Maul’s?

My first thought was that this needs to be linked with the return of Emperor Palpatine. In each single look he’s made throughout the saga he’s been attempting to deprave a Pressure person. A lot of the Prequel Trilogy was about his sluggish seduction of Anakin Skywalker, then Return of the Jedi noticed him attempting the identical trick on Luke Skywalker. Might Rey be his last roll of the cube, and has he succeeded this time? If nothing else, it’d definitely make for a stunning climax if the finale of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker confirmed a reformed Kylo Ren battling Rey in an try to stop her making the identical errors he did.
