Pete Buttigieg Requests Unbiased Investigation

The South Bend, Indiana police union is outraged after the town’s mayor and Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg requested to open an unbiased investigation over the loss of life of 54-year-old Eric Logan, who was shot and killed by Sgt. Ryan O’Neill earlier this month.

The South Bend Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #36 claimed Buttigieg is making choices on an officer-involved deadly capturing “solely for his political achieve.” 

“Mayor Buttigieg’s feedback have already and can proceed to have a detrimental impact on native regulation enforcement places of work and regulation enforcement officers nationwide,” an announcement from the group learn. “Mayor Buttigieg’s feedback and actions are driving a wedge between regulation enforcement officers and the group they took an oath to serve.”

Buttigieg promised to group members he’d contact the U.S. Division of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to request an unbiased investigation. 

The police union cited of their assertion that Bittigieg is biased in opposition to regulation enforcement due to feedback he made in an electronic mail he despatched to supporters, which learn: “all police work and all of American life takes place within the shadow of racism, which hurts everybody and all the things it touches. Historic racism, present-day racism, and generational racism – all of them secrete a sort of poison into the bloodstream of this nation.”

The South Bend police union isn’t the one group indignant at their mayor. After Logan was reportedly killed by police, there was outrage locally and a heated confrontation with Buttigieg after he attended a march in entrance of police headquarters with 100 demonstrators on June 21.

One protester on the demonstration, in line with the South Bend Tribune, recommended that Black individuals wouldn’t vote for Buttigieg. “You are operating for president and also you need Black individuals to vote for you? That is not going to occur,” the demonstrator mentioned through the march.

On the next Sunday, Buttigieg held a city corridor to handle constituents’ considerations over rising stress between members of the group and the native police division. He described the present relationship between regulation enforcement and the group as “very difficult.”
